Children

Speech-language therapy services can begin with newborns if a disorder is identified. Early detection and treatment of communication difficulties is clinically proven to result in a better prognosis for improvement. After a comprehensive evaluation, therapy services can be provided from one to three times per week for 30 minute sessions. In addition to providing direct therapy to the child, family members will be provided with counseling, education and parent training as needed. The goal of therapy is to include the entire family in assisting the child in reaching his or her maximum communication potential. Therapy may be recommended for:

  • Expressive/Receptive Language
  • Pragmatic Skills
  • Literacy
  • Cognitive Skills
  • Articulation/Phonology
  • Language Expansion for Late Talkers
  • Oral-Motor/Myofunctinal
  • Auditory Processing
  • Fluency

Adults

Family dynamics can often be challenging when the communication skills of a family member are impaired. Frustration and depression can also impair the communication skills of an individual; therefore therapy targets functional skills to improve daily tasks related to work, family and socialization. After a comprehensive evaluation, therapy services can be provided from one to three times per week for 30 minute sessions. In addition to providing direct therapy to the client, family members may be provided with counseling, education and training as needed. The goal of therapy is to include the entire family in assisting the individual in reaching his or her maximum communication potential. Therapy may be recommended for:

  • Aphasia
  • Voice Disorders
  • Myofunctional
  • Accent Reduction
  • Expressive/Receptive Language
  • Pragmatic Skills
  • Cognition
  • Fluency

Groups

Group therapy sessions provide a "safe" environment to utilize learned therapy techniques and skills. It also provides comradery and a setting to "try new things."  Led by an SLP, group sessions facilitate communication skills for adults and children. Groups are tailored for individuals with common goals and abilities and are held once per week for 60 minutes. Group goals may target areas such as:

  • Pragmatic (Social) Skills
  • Language Expansion for Late Talkers
  • Expressive/Receptive Language
  • Life Skills
